Charles is a native Texan, lifelong Democrat, and graduate of Prairie View A&M University. It was there Charles developed his interest in politics and decided to embark upon a career in law to positively impact the lives of those in his community. He is a 2004 graduate of The Thurgood Marshall School of Law in Houston, Texas.
While in law school Charles worked as intern to US Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee through the Mickey Leland Congressional Internship Program.
Upon his graduation from law school, Charles was admitted to the Texas Bar, and soon after, the DC Bar. Charles immediately sought a career in public service and was appointed Assistant Attorney General for the state’s Title IVD Child Support Agency in 2005.
In his capacity as a Title IVD attorney, Charles has helped thousands of Harris County area children receive the financial and emotional support they deserve. Charles was recognized as Assistant Attorney General of the Year for his region in 2008. Charles has also served as a Managing Attorney since 2010 and is well respected within the Harris County Family Law Community.
As a Managing Attorney, Charles has demonstrated his strong leadership ability. Charles has experience handling a high-volume legal practice and in the analysis of complex family law subject matter. He is sought after for his 12 years of full-time family law experience by his colleagues and members of the private Bar alike. Charles is an experienced CLE presenter.
Charles’ family resides in The Riverside Terrace neighborhood of Houston’s Third Ward. In Charles’ spare time he enjoys spending time with his family, including his dog Justice, running and bike riding.
Justice should be blind. It demands that all rulings are based on the merits of cases and not politics. Judges should show concern for the communities they serve and work to keep children and families first. Courts should constantly strive to improve efficiency and treat all parties and attorneys with respect. Charles is the candidate that will embody these principles as your next Judge.
Charles is a sustaining member of the Harris County Democratic Party and a member of a host of other clubs and organizations including the Houston Lawyers Association, LGBT Caucus, Harris County Tejano Democrats, Bellaire/Braeswood Democrats, Area 5 Democrats, Cypress/Tomball Democrats, Sharpstown Democrats, Meyerland Democrats, ROADwomen, Oak Forest Democrats and Houston Young Lawyers Association.
